Capacitor Upgrades

The typical lifespan of a capacitor in the UPS System is approximately eight to nine years. The ambient temperature has the largest effect on lifespan. If the UPS Systems are not installed in a cool environment, the lifetimes of these capacitors are further reduced.

At Tristar, we monitor these capacitors using a capacitance meter and an oscilloscope in order to measure the capacitance, ripple voltage and current. If we notice a premature failure, or if your unit has capacitors that may affect your load or battery life, we recommend our customers to upgrade these capacitors.

We have arrangements with all the leading capacitor manufacturing companies so that you can purchase these capacitors at competitive prices. We pass these savings to our customers and typically save our customers about 10 to 15% on capacitor upgrades.

Fan Upgrades

Every model fan, regardless of its manufacturer, will exhibit different life characteristics, depending on the combination of age (typically eight to nine years), ambient temperature, mounting attitude, and environment. Furthermore, restriction to airflow conditions typically occurs when air filters are not replaced at regular intervals or when the air flow is blocked.

At Tristar, we check and address these issues regularly during preventive maintenance visits. However, if the fans are old, typically after eight to nine years of use, or if we notice high bearing temperatures or a squeaky noise, we recommend that our customers replace their UPS fans to avoid any catastrophic failures due to increased temperatures.
